A Celebration of Life!!

Today we remember and pay tribute to

SEBASTIAN

I Stand in Awe of You

You are beautiful beyond description,

Too marvelous for words,

Too wonderful for comprehension

Like nothing ever seen or heard.

Who can grasp Your infinite wisdom?

Who can fathom the depth of Your love?

You are beautiful beyond description,

Majesty enthroned above.

And I stand, I stand in awe of You.

Lord, I stand, I stand in awe of You.

Holy God to whom all praise is due,

I stand in awe of You.

 Step by Step

God you are my God

And I will ever praise you.

God you are my God

And I will ever praise you.

I will seek you in the morning,

And I will learn to walk in your ways.

And step by step you'll lead me,

And I will follow you all of my days.

I will follow you all of my days.

And I will follow you all of my days.

And step by step you'll lead me,

And I will follow you all of my days.

Lord, I lift Your Name on high

Lord, I lift Your Name on high

Lord, I love to sing Your praises

I'm so glad You're in my life

I'm so glad You came to save us.

Chorus:

You came from heaven to earth

To show the way

From the earth to the cross

My debt to pay

From the cross to the grave

From the grave to the sky

Lord, I lift Your Name on high.

Give Thanks

Give thanks with a grateful heart,

Give thanks to the Holy One;

Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son.

Give thanks with a grateful heart,

Give thanks to the Holy One;

Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son.

And now, let the weak say, "I am strong,"

Let the poor say, "I am rich" because of what the Lord has done for us:

And now, let the weak say "I am strong,"

Let the poor say, "I am rich"

because of what the Lord has done for us.

Shout to the Lord

My Jesus, My Savior

Lord there is none like you

All of my days, I want to praise

The wonders of Your mighty love

My Comfort, My Shelter

Tower of refuge and strength

Let every breath, all that I am

Never cease to worship You

Shout to the Lord all the earth let us sing

Power and majesty praise to the King

Mountains bow down and the seas will roar

At the sound of Your Name

I sing for joy at the works of Your hands

Forever I love You, forever I'll stand

Nothing compares to the promise I have in You

Forever Safe with the Savior

When I finally get to Heaven,

wherever will I find you?

Will you be slipping behind cherubs

to open cereal boxes?

Or will seraphim be chasing you

like hounds chasing foxes?

Will I find you with Moses,

splashing in water from the rocks?

Or blowing trumpets with that Joshua

knocking down all the blocks?

Will I find you dancing with David

to some cool Veggie sound?

Or sailing with Saint Peter

to infinity and beyond?

Or eating chocolate kisses

with angels in the clouds?

Or sitting at the Throne of God

with the saints all around?

When I finally get to Heaven

wherever will I find you?

I'll find you resting safe

in the Savior's embrace,

just where I left you,

smiling into His loving face.

Dedicated to Sebastian Dockery,

December 28, 1998 by K.R. Miller

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to everyone who has

contributed to the needs of the whole family over the last year.

We have always hesitated to highlight any particular act of

kindness because everything that anyone ever did for us has meant

more than you can possibly imagine. So to all of you who may think

that you didn't do very much or that what you

did wasn't a big deal, remember that it touched

the life of Sebastian and so it will be treasured in our hearts forever.

Thank You !!!!!

Welcome to First United Presbyterian Church

801-16th Street

Moline, Illinois

We are blessed and honored to have you join us as we worship God through prayer and praise on behalf of Sebastian's life.

This service will be filled with song, sharing and sadness as we say good-bye to a very special little boy who has touched our life.

Childcare has been made available for infants through preschoolers at the request of the family. The ushers will direct you to the location. If you chose to keep your child with you, please use the side rooms to the west of the sanctuary.

Sebastian was born in his Mommy & Daddy's bedroom on purpose on August 31, 1996!! At the time he had his older brothers Steve, Jr. and Sam and his older sister Stephanie at home with him.

Sebastian spent the first half of his life playing with the kids in the neighborhood and the nursery at church. One of his favorite pastimes was trying to escape down the block. He became an avid "Veggie Tales" fan at a very early age and Bob, Larry & Jr. were a frequently mentioned part of his vocabulary.

When he was seventeen months old, he was diagnosed with a cancer called neuroblastoma. His little brother Spencer was born at the Super 8 motel (not on purpose) the same day Sebastian was diagnosed. The eleven months that followed were filled with triumphs and setbacks. He sailed through numerous hospitalizations for chemotherapy, surgery and blood transfusions over the first six months. The next five months were filled with struggles that included a great deal of pain and suffering at various times.

Sebastian then spent the vast majority of that time in the arms of his Daddy and the care of his Mommy.

We all prayed for a miracle of physical healing for Sebastian's body and believed to the very end that it was coming. Only our gracious and merciful God could give us the peace, comfort and faith to understand that someday we will all be together and see exactly how He indeed answered our prayers.

Sebastian will be remembered by the way he just melted into the arms of anyone who held him and by the way he brought people together for the glory of God.

Song: Give Thanks

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" Rom 15:13

Stephanie:

It has become sort of a tradition that when we gather for Sebastian, we sing these songs. Our family often sing these songs as prayers and would invite you to do the same. Shout to the Lord is a new one-When my dad was invited to play this song in church back in November, he practiced many times. At home, Sebastian would clap after his dad would finish. So during church when the chorus team finished, Sebastian said "yeah" and started clapping even though he was in alot of pain. Jesus continues to be our comfort and shelter.

This next song, "Lord I Lift Your Name on High" has always been a family favorite.

Step by Step is a song that described how we took each day of Sebastian's ordeal and how we continue to deal with how much we miss him.

Steve Jr.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your presence here today, be with us now as we go on from here. Watch over us, guide us and help us to feel your presence everyday. In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen

As many of you know, all through the last year and a half, I have not ever given "public" thank you's because our whole family has always appreciated everything that everyone has done for us. As stated at the funeral, anything that anyone ever did touched the life of Sebastian so it will be forever treasured in our hearts. Today I want to introduce you to some of the people that have and continue to carry us through this difficult time in our life.

My husband and I have attended three more visitations for children who have lost thier battles with cancer. We have also recently begun attending "Rainbow Corner" which is a support group that is part of QCC for parents who have lost their child to cancer. It was after our most recent meeting that I began to think that in some ways, I may have sounded like I have glorified Sebastian's death in some way. I can tell you quite honestly that there was absolutely nothing glorious about watching a two year old die from cancer. During that last week, Sebastian needed extremely high levels of morphine to just maintain comfort. His nostrils flared and he wanted to be held in a vertical position to ensure the most efficient use of oxygen, his heart raced unbelievably fast and he was retaining fluid. On Christmas Day, he even lost his eyesight due to the advancement of the disease. Despite all of that, we held firm to the belief that as seemingly quick as Sebastian seemed to be declining, through the grace of God, he could as quickly begin to improve. After Sebastian died, we looked back on all of the ways that God was preparing the way for his entrance into heaven.

how gracious God was to bless us with such a peaceful memory. we never prayed for anything other than a miracle of healing. Were we wrong about what we prayed for? Should we have accepted the doctor's diagnoses and asked for grace in accepting his entrance into heaven?

Our family was blessed with wise spiritual counsel on this matter. Pastor Vic assured me long before Sebastian's death that a miracle of healing for Sebastian would not make God anymore God because he chose to bring physical healing upon him anymore than taking him to heaven would make him any less God. God is God, he is our creator,

what is glorious is that we have the hope of seeing Sebastian again. We have a new reason to live a life that is worthy of entrance into heaven. We know that in order for us to make meaning out of this, we have to be filled with the hope
